There are a number of conditions you may experience during your pregnancy, that may be eased, helped, improved or cured by seeing a Women’s Health Physiotherapist. The physical and physiological changes your body goes through during your pregnancy are phenomenal, and can affect women in many ways.

It can be problems physically (e.g. walking, moving, working, housework, lifting, sleeping), the presence of pain or suffering incontinence. It can be anxiety, emotional and psychological concerns. I want to help you on your journey to motherhood, and enable you to be the best you can be for yourself and for your baby.

There may be problems that you feel are ‘just normal for being pregnant’ – these problems can be very common, but aren’t necessarily ‘normal’, so I want to empower you to address any concerns you have. An assessment with a Women’s Health Physiotherapist is often all you need to prevent problems getting worse. There is a wealth of evidence to support physiotherapy in the treatment of pelvic girdle pain, back pain and incontinence in pregnancy, so don’t put up with it!

Even if you aren’t experiencing any specific pain or problems, a Women’s Health Physiotherapist can advise you on safe exercise in pregnancy; where to start; how to pace yourself and how to maintain strength and fitness. There is a lot of evidence that health and exercise during pregnancy can prevent physical problems occurring, help to alleviate mood, prevent gestational diabetes and improve opportunities for an ‘Active Birth’ (reducing complications in labour and delivery). It can also improve your physical and emotional wellbeing whilst caring for your newborn post childbirth.
